San Giorgio is a small town (1300 pop) in the Marche region of Italy.

The Marche borders the Adriatic Sea. It is well known for its seaside resorts (Pesaro, Fano, Senigallia) but has much more to offer. A short distance inland is some spectacular scenery and interesting towns (Urbino, Jesi, Loreto). There are opera festvals in Pesaro and Macerata, carnivals in Fano. It also has its own annual fair to celebrate St George's Day.

San Giorgio is found in the hills (201m asl) about 15 kilometres inland. It lies at the high point between the Metauro and Cesano river valleys. It is about 12 kilometres from the motorway (Fano or Marotta junction) and is only 25 minutes drive from Ancona Airport.

map of the town The town is named after Castello San Giorgio which is first mentioned in a papal bull in 777 a.d. The historic centre is inside the old town walls. The town continued to grow outside the walls and now extends up to the main road between Orciano and Fano. The town has a bank, pharmacy, a bakery and a small supermarket.
